Swift's
4, E of Lafayette
Noho
Manhattan
{ Eclipse the Gum 3/1/01: Named for Jonathan Swift. Master of verbal and situational irony. Swift was also a curmudgeonous old coot who hated being Irish. This bar celebrates its Irishness through live music, the brogue of the bartenders and some of the menu items. And through liberal use of the order "Irish car bomb." Swift wrote something to the effect of "I hate all people" in a letter to Alexander Pope. But, this place is bountiful with love. On one occasion, the DJ played an assortment from the discs I'd just purchased at Other Music. Sadly, the Sierra Nevada at $4.50 is a tad Lilliputian. Oh, the irony.} { joshua 6/19/01: "lets go to that place 2 doors down...the bartender here (b-bar) is such a f%$@in b%#@*" Swift- dig this place so much more. "why do I have an Irish brogue everytime I order?" "Has anyone been downstairs yet...I would hang out in the bathroom, its like a cool catacomb down there."}

Acme Underground
Great Jones @ Lafayette
Noho
Manhattan
I've been but once—another miscommunication with Tweezers, involving in this case, MadDog and I supporting each other against a barrage of bad goth music. { Eclipse the Gum 1/17/01: Not so much a bar, but a liquor-toting excuse to hear one decent band, once a year}

Bleeker Street Bar
Bleeker, next to NoHo Star
Noho
Manhattan
{ Eclipse the Gum 3/1/01: Do you like to spank it to Jenna Jameson all-anal action? Do you play pool badly even though you've been playing for years? Do you preface every exclamatory remark with "Dude?" Does your baseball cap advertise to the people looking at the back of your head? Does hockey get you hard? Do these questions appear to be leaning toward a certain stereotyped demographic? No more than this bar does.}

Temple Bar
Lafayette, N of Houston
Noho
Manhattan
The Temple has the advantage of obscurity. Its inauspicious entrance, it would seem, makes it impossible for rowdy B&Ts to take over. Whether for this reason or not, The Temple is mellow, friendly, and, hell, it smells good. The lounge in the back is comfortable and dark, very dark. Drinks are on the high side, kittlings, but! the pour is generous indeed. [I've always appreciated the complimentary popcorn here, but recently I explored the menu, while lolling about in the back room...if prices could kill! but the food  was good, and as usual, the extensive vodka menu saved the day.]
